The catalytic converter is a device that cleans the gas which passes with the exhaust system of a vehicle. It converts harsh pollutants to less harmful substances before they’re emitted out. For example, it converts carbon monoxide, which is recognized to be harmful, into carbon dioxide which is risk-free.
Catalytic converters are typically crafted from metal or ceramic honeycombed monolith substrate that contains metal catalysts. The substrate is wrapped with intumescent mat wraps. The substrate is perfectly fitted to the exhaust system but it expands when heated thereby insulating the substrate. The chemical reaction happens once the gasses pass through the catalyst. These reactions convert pollutants into water and risk-free gas. The catalyst comprised of different noble metal mixed together such as platinum, palladium and rhodium. Scientifically, what really happens during the reactions is this: hydrocarbons react with oxygen and produces carbon dioxide; nitrogen oxides react with carbon monoxide to produce carbon dioxide and nitrogen; and react with hydrogen to supply water vapor and nitrogen.
