Extra importantly, the ultimate construction takes inspiration from the picture of a conventional Ukrainian home; envisioning it as a ‘residence away from residence’ for polar researchers, the architects designed the set up primarily based on a composite picture of a Ukrainian rural home. ‘A skinny detailed body across the tank resembles a pencil sketch: as if somebody, reminiscing, attracts their childhood residence from reminiscence,’ notes the balbek bureau crew.

To accompany the ‘Residence.Recollections’ set up, balbek bureau created a mini exposition with souvenirs from Ukraine, together with a pattern of the UNESCO-listed Kosiv painted ceramics and a lump of coal from the Donetsk area embedded in resin. The exhibition was later expanded with the assistance of the Ministry of Tradition and Data Coverage of Ukraine.
