Located on the western fringe of the Tango Peninsula in northern Kyoto Prefecture, the residence enjoys the light sounds of waves and ocean breeze, standing in shut proximity to a small hill and to the famend surf spot, Hacchohama, alongside the Japan Sea. Amidst the continuing lumber scarcity and materials worth surge, the mission goals to create a minimal area that transcends the everyday trip house, serving as a base camp to relish the encompassing nature, whether or not sea or mountains, exploring the likelihood to duplicate related areas in several places. Diverging from generic, prefab options, the design pursues a steadiness between universality and a particular identification, trying to exhibit the idea of a second base with its distinctive character.

HIDEO ARAO ARCHITECTS opts for a minimal structural framework

The framework takes form with minimal use of core structural parts. Using simply obtainable concrete blocks, the outer partitions encircle all 4 sides of the construction. Glass is inserted into the gaps between the blocks and the eaves to create the interior areas. The first construction’s perimeter adheres to an financial and spatial logic, formed as a sq.. Inner beams, angled at 45 levels, align with the climbing beams of the square-shaped roof, following the positioning of the utility core. The formation of the utility core shapes intriguing area dynamics amidst the concrete blocks, accommodating site-level disparities with various flooring ranges. To realize a rhythmic steadiness, the design crew applies steady horizontal home windows, mirroring block specs. On this compact sq. configuration, open area unfolds unhindered by the structural framework.
